For government

Find a useful place for AI.

Start with a workflow you want to improve. Work through the opportunity, the data and the systems it needs to fit.

Where is the work getting difficult?

Perhaps staff spend time finding information, moving data between systems, or checking AI-generated answers. Bring one example and what you want to improve.

For program leaders

Tell me about the service need, who it affects and how you’d judge an improvement. I’ll help you work out whether AI is a useful fit and what a first step could be.

For technical teams

We work through data access, existing systems and integration options together, and test any software or data connection against your environment and constraints.

Inspectable evidence

Connecting tools to public data

Inspect a connector that lets AI tools search and query open-data catalogues. It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) with CKAN, software used to publish data portals.

John’s WA data MCP repository is a public fork of ondata’s CKAN MCP server. The underlying connector is upstream work; this is not evidence of a commissioned agency deployment.

A first engagement

AI use review

Find out where your staff already use AI, what data that exposes and what policy you need. A fixed scope at a fixed price.

AI use review
$9,500 + GST ($10,450 including GST)
Four weeks
Extended review
$19,500 + GST ($21,450 including GST)
Six weeks

What you get

  • A staff survey: which AI tools people use, for what work and with what information.
  • An inventory of AI tools, including AI features built into software you already use.
  • A data-risk register: which information could reach an AI service, and how much that matters.
  • A draft AI use policy, written for your staff and revised with you.
  • A private-AI option: what an approved alternative hosted in Australia would involve and cost to run.

The extended review adds interviews in every directorate, a briefing for staff and a costed plan for a pilot.

What I need from you

A named contact, a way to send the survey to staff, and a list of the software you use. I don’t need access to your systems or confidential data.

What it isn’t

It isn’t a security audit, legal advice or a certification of compliance. Building or hosting a private AI service is separate work. The review may recommend no new AI tools at all.

Check your own purchasing policy for how many quotes you need. I take on one review at a time, so ask about the next available start. We agree the start date and written scope before work begins.

What I do

Start with one workflow you want to improve. We agree the scope together, and the people who’ll use the result test each step.

  1. AI use review

When staff are already using AI, I find out where, what data that exposes and the policy to fit. Four weeks, $9,500 + GST. What’s included

  2. Data management and analysis

When your data is scattered or hard to trust, I clean it, connect it and analyse it, with reports your staff can rerun themselves.

  3. Custom software and tools

When off-the-shelf software doesn’t fit how you work, I build software that does: tested, released and handed over so your staff can run it.

The AI use review is the usual first step. Not sure which fits? Describe one workflow and what you want to improve.

A first conversation

Start with one workflow.

A short, non-sensitive description is enough to start.

Tell me what the workflow involves, where it gets difficult and what an improvement would look like. Mention the systems or data constraints you already know about.

From there, we work out a first step together. How it works.
